Video Tutorial

Summary

In this video tutorial we are going to learn some of the basics of the "miniDraw" application. The goal is to draw a cartoon character and go over the most important features available.

Since this is a vector graphics software, we are going to work with shapes. Shapes are composed of points that we can adjust individually. This includes moving them or changing the way they affect the shape's appearance. Points can be of 3 types, corner, smooth or symmetric.

We start by creating a circle for the eye. To do so, select the circle tool and tap the screen, dragging outwards, than release. We than adjust the points to get the desired result. After this, we first clone the shape and then mirror it. This gets us the second eye. We further adjust the size and position of the second eye and also bring it to the top of the layer (so it overlaps the 1st eye).

Before continuing to draw the cartoon character, we create a new layer for the remaining shapes. We will do this several times, as needed.

Now, we create a new shape for the head. We select the shape tool, and tap where we would like the shape to start. We add 2 additional points to the shape. In the end, we tap the last point a 2nd time in order to end the shape creation. Similar to the eye creation, we will adjust the points, mirror and clone the shape to get the other half of the head.

The remaining parts of the face are created similarly. Note that, we are using the "Apply next change to all points" in some cases. By doing this, the next "Smooth Point" will take effect on all points of the current shape.

In the end, we create 2 white circles in a separate layer and adjust the layer's opacity.

Using the vector graphics software I have just shown, you can draw cartoon characters, draw tribal art designs or anything else that comes to mind.
